THE DISCIPLE’S COMPASS

The analog Disciple's Compass

The practice on paper. A complete edition, not a lesser one.

The analog Disciple’s Compass is the practice on paper. It’s a logbook whose pages are already laid out, so each morning you open to the day’s page and pick up a pen.

One practice, two editions

The way I keep my own Compass, the day’s page is a text file that gets built each evening. In the analog edition, it’s a printed page. Both have the same fields, in the same order, and follow the same night-before rule. That’s what makes them one practice. The four bearings and the rhythm are the whole of it, and everything else is furniture.

So the paper edition isn’t the lesser one. It’s not a starter version for people who aren’t ready for something else. A pen isn’t a step down from a screen. It has nothing to charge, nothing to update, and nothing to interrupt you. Nothing about the practice needs more than a page and a pen.

The page is laid out with room to answer it:

  • The four bearings: follow by obeying, log what you hear and what surfaces, identify the current wobble, and course correct.
  • A place for the day’s Scripture and what you wrote back to it.
  • The evening close, which asks what moved, what didn’t, and what tomorrow needs.

Where it stands

The analog Compass is in progress now. It’s moving alongside I Am A Disciple, and it’s coming in Fall 2026.

You don’t have to wait

Everything this edition will hold, you can start tonight in a plain notebook. Here’s how. If you start before the paper edition is ready, I’d like to hear how it’s going. Write to me at ron@pilocon.com.
